The Ticos of Costa Rica Teach Us How It's Done!
Forty percent of all our coffees come from Costa Rica, one of the world's most celebrated sources of fine coffees, and a leader in the global specialty coffee trade for more than a decade. This tiny Central American country is renowned not only for the quality of its product, but for its stature as a global leader in environmental preservation and conservation. Three-fourths of the country's land is set aside as parks or reserves, and the high quality of Costa Rica's infrastructure and education reinforce just how valued it is as a coffee trading partner.
Coffee is a cornerstone of Costan Rican culture and tradition. Want proof? Try a cup of our Costa Rica brew, and you'll agree the country's coffee-growers - or 'Ticos' as they call themselves -- have raised the process to an art form. With their unmatched uniformity, the coffees of Costa Rica are grown and harvested at five distinct regions: The Central Valley, Tarrazu, Tres Rios, Naranjo, and Poas. Terrazu, in the south-central portion of the country, is where our Costa Rican variety comes from.
