A Habitat for Both Excellent Coffees and Thriving Natural Life

Under the professional guidance of Hugh Laird, who holds an eminent place in the island's coffee lore, the Sigri Estate has developed coffees of world-class richness and complexity since its founding in the 1950s. Laird's passion for coffee and his mastery in making it guarantee that his selections for The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® live up to the reputation we set for all our coffees as being Simply the Best™. On terraces as high up 4,500 feet above the breathtaking Wahgi Valley, the coffee here is shade grown beneath Casuarina and Albizzia trees which, together with the valley's Eucalyptus trees, provide a thriving ecosystem for the Wahgi Valley's colorful native birds, including Rainbow Lorikeets, Honeyeaters, Helmeted Friarbirds, Brown Falcons, Brush Cuckoos, and Willie Wagtails. The diversity of the Sigri Estate's vibrant natural life is testament to its commitment to conservation and protecting the environment, something that most estates around the world cannot lay claim to.

By funding a small school for the workers' children on the estate's grounds, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® is proud to have played a role in adding positively to the lives of the workers at Sigri, where great coffee goes hand in hand with conservation, sustainable agriculture, and healthy communities.
